Deep River is a town in Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. Situated along the Ottawa River, it lies around 200 kilometers north-west of Ottawa on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Deep River is opposite the Laurentian Mountains and the Province of Quebec. The name Deep River purportedly comes from the way that the Ottawa River arrives at its most noteworthy depth of 402 feet outside the township.
The main industry revolves around research at the Chalk River site of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), a facility of the Chalk River Laboratories around 10 km east of Deep River on Highway 17. CNL is named for, and principally accessed by means of, the town Chalk River, despite the fact that the site is in fact in Deep River.
I was born and raised in Deep River. My mother, Pat, was a councilor and reeve for the town and my father, John, was a mathematician and diplomat at CRNL.
Commutable to Pembroke and Petawawa, Deep River is a terrific place to retire or start a family.
