Petawawa is the most populous municipality in Renfrew County. The name of Petawawa comes from a the Algonquin word, biidaawewe, signifying "where one hears a commotion like this".
Petawawa is home to Canadian Forces Base Petawawa, which is one of Canada's biggest bases with individuals sent all through the world on different missions supporting the United Nations in peacekeeping or the War on Terror.
